Judging is based on a 100
point score sheet. The SONG is worth 70 points of the total score
(divided into 10 points for FREEDOM and 60 points for RENDITION).
20 points are allotted for CONFORMATION and 10 points are offered for
CONDITION.
FREEDOM means the bird's
willingness to sing. Every time a bird sings a full song during
the first ten minutes, the Judge scores one point, up to ten points.
If the bird sings more that ten times, he can only receive the maximum
points allotted to Freedom (10 points). If the bird does not sing until
late in the judging period, he is not a free singer, though he can still
be scored through his song value. If a bird does not sing at all
during the judging period, the bird forfeits the whole 70 points
allotted to SONG.
RENDITION means the song
itself. The song of the American Singer should have just the right
amount of blending of roller and border to be pleasing to the ear,
neither too loud, harsh or monotonous, of the right quality, strength
and variety, without any more that six chop notes in the song.
CONFORMATION means the
type compared to the
model.
If the bird is not up to the standards set out in the model, points may
be deducted. Color does not enter into scoring, but the bird must
have a well proportioned body and good plumage.
CONDITION is where the
overall health, vigor, and cleanliness of the bird are noted.
Condition of the cage is also considered, that it meets the show
standards for number and location of perches, bottom is papered, seed
and water cups are clean, etc.
If a show has classes for
hens, the total judging score would be 50 points, with 35 points
allotted for CONFORMATION and 15 points for CONDITION.
All birds entered in
competitions must be bred, raised, trained and exhibited by MEMBERS ONLY
of the American Singers Club in good standing.
